🌿 FFA Value Range (Edible Oils)

Oil TypeMinimum FFA (%)Maximum Acceptable FFA (%)FSSAI Limit
Sesame Oil~0.05≤ 4.54.5
Coconut Oil~0.05≤ 2.52.5
Groundnut Oil~0.05≤ 33
Refined Oils~0.01≤ 0.050.05

🧪 Note: These are typical values when the oil is fresh and properly filtered. The values can rise over time due to improper storage or exposure to air, light, and heat.

🔬 What is FFA?

FFA (Free Fatty Acid) measures the extent of hydrolysis in oils. High FFA levels indicate breakdown of triglycerides, often due to aging or poor storage.

⚠️ FFA & Rancidity

  • Higher FFA = Higher chance of rancidity.
  • Rancid oils taste and smell bad, and can be harmful to health.
  • Fresh wood-pressed oils generally have low FFA when processed and stored correctly.
  • Refined oils have extremely low FFA, but lose much of their nutrients during processing.
